Radon Mitigation System in Richland. MI
Challenge
Mark called ALS Property Associates, Inc. because he had found out he had elevated radon levels in his home. Doug Smith with ALS came to complete a free radon inspection/consultation. Together the two decided to complete another round of radon testing with a continuous radon monitor. The 48-short-term radon test verified the radon was at an average of about 10 pCi/L which is well above the EPA action level of 4. The challenge for this mitigation was the size of the basement along with the the aesthetics of the system. Not only lowering the radon levels as low as possible, but the look of the radon reduction system was important as well.
Solution
ALS Property Associates, Inc. designed a radon mitigation system with an interior aesthetic package. The team drilled and installed a radon extraction point in the utility area of the large finished basement. The schedule PVC pipe was then ran to the garage/shop and straight up to the attic. The ALS team decided to utilize a larger more powerful fan in order to draw enough pressure from under the slab. They installed a Festa Legend Extreme Radon Fan which then vented through the roof of the shop area. The installation was a success and the radon levels were brought down to an average of 0.78.
