Radon Testing - Radon Action Month

We would like to write about the importance of having your home tested for radon to properly end January’s Radon Action Month. Radon gas is a level 5 indoor air pollutant and fits in the same category as carbon monoxide. Long term exposure has the potential to cause lung cancer to not only occupants, but our loving pets as well. Radon gas is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the United States next to smoking cigarettes. Individuals who smoke increase their odds of lung cancer by almost 8 times. Every pCi/L of radon in your home is equivalent to smoking 2.5 cigarettes a day. In the last year and a half, people are generally spending much more time at and even working from home. Many people have not tested their home for radon and don’t realize the poor air quality may be causing harm. Testing your home for radon gas is extremely important to prevent future health issues. It is easy to do and pretty inexpensive. You can call a radon professional to test your home, purchase a short-term charcoal radon test at a hardware store, or buy a radon monitor online.

Luckily, if you find you have elevated levels in your home it can be easily mitigated. If you are worried about or currently have a radon or other indoor quality issue, please feel free to reach out to us at ALS Property Associates, Inc. We will gladly take time to answer your questions and make sure we give you all the information to help you move in the right direction.
