What is Radon?

What is Radon? Radon gas is a naturally occurring, radioactive, colorless, odorless, tasteless, noble gas that comes from the earth. As Uranium deposits in the ground break down into radium, radon gas is released. Radon travels the path of least resistance and can make its way into any structure or building that has contact with the ground. As radon makes its way into your home there is another transformation. It begins to break down into other solid radioactive elements called radon decay products. These elements can stick to other surfaces such as dust particles. Stuck to particles or not, you and your loved ones (Including pets) can then breathe the radioactive radon decay products into your lungs. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, next to smoking. If you are a smoker, it increases your risk by almost eight times.

The only way to know if you have a radon problem in your home or business is to test for radon. Testing is affordable and easy to accomplish and has the potential to save lives.
